Homemade Tuna Salad with avocado

Geschatte leestijd: 2 minuten Tuna fits very well into a healthy diet. This is because this fish contains a lot of proteins but is also rich in vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids. Additionally, tuna contains few calories and not much fat. For this salad, for convenience, you can use canned tuna. If you prefer fresh tuna, always choose the sustainable variant. You can prepare a tuna salad in many different ways, but I opted for a lean version without mayonnaise. Avocado does bring some fats into this recipe, but these fats provide you with many healthy nutrients and give you a portion of energy. The combination with apple and red onions adds some zest to the whole. The tuna salad can also be eaten as a post-workout meal due to the high value of proteins and also serves well as a meal salad.

Ingredients Tuna Salad with Avocado

  • 1 can of tuna (in water) or fresh tuna.
  • half ripe avocado
  • 1 small red onion
  • half peeled apple
  • fresh chives or spring onions
  • 1.5 tbsp low-fat quark
  • pepper and salt
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • mixed lettuce
  • optional for garnish; red onion, boiled egg, slices of avocado, cucumber, and tomato.

Preparation Tuna Salad with Avocado

  1. Prepare all ingredients for use.
  2. Drain the canned tuna well and place it in a mixing bowl.
  3. Cut the red onion and apple into small pieces.
  4. Now cut the chives or spring onions.
  5. Cut the avocado in half, pit it (and peel it with a spoon) and slice one half into narrow slices. Set these aside.
  6. Add to the mixing bowl with tuna; the half (un-cut) avocado, the onions, the quark, and the apple and add pepper and salt to taste.
  7. Add the lemon juice and mix it until it becomes a nice whole. The tuna salad may be slightly creamy.
  8. Place some mixed lettuce on a salad plate and scoop the tuna salad onto the middle of the plate. (Amount to your liking.)
  9. Garnish the salad as desired with slices of avocado, cucumber, tomato, egg, and finally some finely chopped chives, pepper, and salt.
Tip! This tuna salad is also delicious on a piece of (sourdough) bread!
